Gudiya rape: traffic blocked, market closed in Shimla

A large number of vehicles stranded as the Theog market was closed down for around four hours on the Hindustan Tibet national highway due to a bandh called to protest against the inefficient handling of Gudiya gangrape case by the police in which one accused was murdered in the police lockup. The protest call was given by Vyapar Mandal Theog, DYFI, SFI and Himachal Pradesh Kissan Sabha. Sanjeev Thakur of the DYFI told UNI that the market remained close from 1100 hrs to 1600 hrs.

He said the Gudiya Proetest Forum would be constituted during the protest meeting today. He said they had called for the protest against misleading probe by the SIT and the role of Director General of Police Somesh Goel to handle the case. Protesters demanded ouster of DGP and action against the SIT members who had transferred after the one of accused held by the police for Ganga rape and murder case died in the police lockup.
