Soldier martyred, 1 injured in sniper shot by Pakistan in Sunderbani

Jammu: An Indian Army soldier attained martyrdom, while another suffered bullet injuries in sniper shot by Pakistan Army at Line of Control (LoC) in Sunderbani sector of Jammu region, this evening.
Defence sources informed that Pakistan Army hit two soldiers of Indian Army’s patrolling party with snipper shot and also fired few rounds later in an unprovoked ceasefire violation at Keri Battal area of Jogawan Khour in Jammu which falls under Sunderbani sector, at around 6:05 P.M. today. Though, Indian Army also retaliated strongly and effectively.
“In the fire exchange, Rifleman Jayadrath Singh was grievously injured and immediately evacuated from the spot and shifted for the emergency treatment, but he succumbed to his injuries,” said sources.
The martyr soldier, who has been identified as Rifleman Jayadrath Singh (28), belonged to village Bhagwanpur, tehsil Deoband, district Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh and is survived by his wife Mamta Devi.
Army said that Rifleman Jayadrath Singh was a brave and sincere soldier. The nation will always remain indebted to him for the supreme sacrifice and devotion to duty. Another jawan identified as Sachin Kumar also sustained injuries in the firing. Both soldiers belonged to 2 Raj Riffles of Army.
In the span of just one week, Army has lost 4 soldiers in cross-LoC firing initiated by Pakistan at LoC in Jammu region and North Kashmir area.
