The Punjab State Scheduled Castes Commission today took strong notice in a matter pertaining to delay in the supply of free textbooks to the Scheduled Castes students of 1st to 10th standard. A meeting was held under the chairmanship of the Commission Chairman Rajesh Bagha with the officers of the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB), Education Department and Welfare Department here in this regard.

During the course of meeting, the PSEB presented the same reasons as in the previous meetings and said it did not have authority to sanction the supply of paper which accounted for the non-printing of the books and there is a possibility of the books being printed by September end following which the Commission took very strong notice of the matter. Dwelling upon the whole situation, Mr Bagha and other members decide to have a meeting with a committee formed for the purpose of paper purchase on August 9, 2017 to arrive at an alternative arrangement concerning the printing of books.
