Income-Tax department today conducted raids at the office and residence of late IG F V Arul's son Michael Arul in the city, following complaints of alleged tax evasion. IT sources said the raids followed the officials obtaining 'leads' during searches conducted the residentail and office premises of a road contractor in the city, during the last two days. The sources said the raids at Michael's residence at Boat Club Road followed the leads they got during searches at Thiyagarajan Enterprises.
However, the IT officials have not established any links till now, the sources said. Arul was said to be involved in computer business and have also invested in share markets. The sources said IT officials had launched search operations in three companies owned by a highway contractor in the city. The searches started in the companies situated in Ashok Nagar yesterday night after a tip-off that the contractor had undervalued property while registering it and evaded income tax payments.
Income tax officials searched the offices of Gurumurthy Engineering Enterprises, GG Infrastructures and Thiyagarajan Enterprises. The three companies take up highway contracts including laying of roads and culverts. Chief Minister Edappadi K Palanisami was in charge of the highways department.
