LMD imposes Rs 25000 fine on branded tea company

UDHAMPUR, JULY 20: Legal Metrology Department (LMD) Udhampur on Thursday penalized a branded tea company for violating labeling norms.
A team headed by Assistant Controller, Legal Metrology Udhampur, Anita Sharma, Inspector Rita Devi and other officials of department ,during a market inspection, found that the Marvel (Gold) tea pouches having net weight 15g had discrepancies in making mandatory declarations. Besides, the team also observed smudging of MRP on certain packages.
The team conducted the inspection at distributor level and detected similar discrepancies on some other pouches of the said brand. A case was booked and notice was served upon the management of the company. Besides, a fine of Rs. 25000/- was imposed on the company, which was later deposited by the said company.
