Rajini urges TN govt not to levy 30 pc entertainment tax, Kamal thanks him

Breaking his silence on the indefinite shutdown launched by the theatre owners, Tamil Superstar Rajinikanth today urged the Tamil Nadu government not to levy 30 per cent local tax on cinema halls. In a tweet, Rajinikanth said 'Keeping in mind the livelihood of Lakhs of people in the Tamil film industry, I sincerely request the TN GOVT to seriously consider our plea.

Actor Kamal Haasan, who had said that all those in film industry should voice their concern, thanked Rajinikanth for voicing his concern. Kamal tweeted 'Thanks Rajni avaragaLay for voicing your concern. Lets request first as gentlemen should. Then we shall see. @superstarrajini & N .Govt'. Kamal also said 'neighbouring states like Kerala have totally desisted from levying any more state tax on cinema over and above GST. It is only the Tamil Nadu government that has brought it (entertainment tax) to 30 per cent.
