Lakhs of people join night-long Lailat-ul-Qadr prayers in Kashmir, Ladakh

Srinagar, Jun 23: Lakhs of people joined night-long Lailat-ul-Qadr prayers in mosques, shrines and other religious places in the Kashmir valley and Ladakh region. Main congregations were organised at Hazratbal shrine, which houses the Holy Relic of Prophet Muhammad, historic Jamia Masjid in the down town and other religious places, local mosques and other shrines in the Kashmir valley.

Thousands of people, including women and children, thronged Hazratbal shrine on the bank of Dal Lake from different parts of the valley and joined Taraweeh and night-long Lailat-ul-Qadr (Shabe-Barat) prayers. Similar prayers were also held at historic Jamia Masjid, shrine of Hazrat Mehoob-ul-Aalam, Hazrat Sheikh Abdul Qadeer Jeelani Khanyar and Saraibala, Hazrat Syed Sahib Sonawar, Hazarat Sheikh Dawood Batmaloo, Jenab Saheb Soura, Hazrat Shahihamdan and Shahree Kalashpora. Night-long prayers were also organised at the shrine of Hazrat Nooruddin Wali and other shrines in the Kashmir valley. Lailatul Qadr prayers were also organised in mosques and shrines in Leh and Kargil districts in Ladakh region. Muslims believed that on this night, the Holy Quran was sent down from the heaven to the Earth.

According to Islamic tradition, Muslims who stay up on this holy night worshipping God will have all their sins forgiven and they will be granted as many good deeds as though they had worshipped continuously for more than one thousand months (83.3 years).
