New Delhi, June 23 : NDA Presidential candidate Ram Nath Kovind filed his nomination for the July 17 election here on Friday in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi & Seveal top leadrers of BJP including Party President Amit Shah .

He submitted the papers at Parliament house accompanied by leaders of political parties who are backing him.

Will always uphold the dignity of the office of President of India, a post on which several distinguishing people have served. I am thankful to all those who have supported me: Ram Nath Kovind.
Kovind is former governor of Bihar. In the Presidential election scheduled for July 17, he will face off with the Congress-led opposition candidate Meira KUmari whose nomination was announced Thursday. Counting of votes is expected to take place on July 20.
The Shiv Sena, the Janta Dal (U) and the AIADMK, including O. Panneerselvam, have all backed Kovind’s candidature for the post of President. And with 63.1% of the electoral college votes already in the bag, Kovind is expected to be a shoo-in for the post.

As many as 48.9% of votes Kovind is expected to get will be from the NDA and the support of several non-NDA regional parties is seen as bumping that number to more than 63%.

“The opposition is bringing Meira Kumar’s name on the list because they feel left out. It’s predicted that more than 60 percent vote will fall for NDA’s chosen nominee Kovind. They have decided to fight it out through this poll. But we can’t help watching them lose,” said the BJP’s Prabhat Jha to ANI on Thursday.
