Zulfkar for early completion of LMD buildings, speedy infrastructure upgradation

SRINAGAR, JUNE 19: Minister for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA) and Information Department Choudhary Zulfkar Ali today called for early completion of various infrastructural works of Legal Metrology Department (LMD).
Reviewing the ongoing work on various LMD structures including secondary laboratories, and research centres getting constructed across the State, the Minister said that a department can work efficiently only when its staff is provided with good infrastructural facilities.
Highlighting the significance of LMD, the Minister said LMD is an important part of FCS&CA as it helps the department in serving its consumers in a better manner by putting up a strict check on hoarders, profiteers and black marketers.
During the meeting, the officers of Jammu Kashmir Housing Board (JKHM) informed the Minister progress of LMD structures. It was given out that LMD structures are near completion and would soon be handed over to the Department.
The meeting was informed that almost 40 percent of work on Working Standard Laboratories at Akhnoor, Rajouri and Poonch has been completed and the rest would be completed soon.
Giving progress report for the construction of Secondary Standard Laboratory and Research Centre getting constructed here at Bemina, the Minister was informed that initially there was a slight delay in the work due to technical glitches. However, after the issue was resolved the work is going on smoothly and would be completed within stipulated timeframe.
During the meeting, Choudhary Zulfkar Ali emphasized upon concerned executing agency JKHB to complete the work of ground floor of FCS&CA Directorate of Jammu at an earliest.
Appreciating the work done on the building, the Minister said it is a prestigious project and so far the work done is quite commendable. He expressed his optimism that while maintaining the quality the remaining work on the building would also be completed soon.
The Minister also sought update on the facelift of FCS&CA Kashmir building to turn it into a cultural heritage building. He was informed that the proposal in this regard is getting formulated where external facade of the building would be kept intact, while the alteration to internal architecture would only be taken up after consulting the concerned people at the Directorate.
Secretary, FCS&CA Shafiq Raina, Managing Director JKHB Manmohan Singh, Controller LMD Vipra Bhal, Joint Controllers, Jammu, Kashmir V S Sambyal, Amar Singh respectively, and other concerned officers were present in the meeting.
