Train services suspended in Kashmir
Srinagar, Jun 17: Train services were suspended as a precautionary measure in Kashmir valley, where separatists have called for a general strike today in protest against the death of three youth, allegedly in security force firing during the last two days.
“We have suspended all train runs in the valley today,” a railway official told UNI. He said train service from Srinagar-Anantnag-Qazigund to Banihal in Jammu region remained suspended since yesterday as a precautionary measure in view of fresh violence. Meanwhile, he said train services from Srinagar-Badgam to Baramulla in north Kashmir have been suspended today.
He further said train runs were suspended, following a directive from the state administration and police. Both the factions of the Hurriyat Conference (HC) and the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF), have given the strike call. Yesterday, a youth succumbed to injuries sustained in security force firing on protesters at Rengreth on Srinagar-old Airport road on Thursday.
Meanwhile, two youth, including a 14-year-old boy, were killed and several others injured when security forces burst teargas shells and resorted to firing to disperse protestors, who were trying to disrupt anti-militant operation in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district. Three Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) militants were killed in the encounter.
