Severe heat wave conditions to continue for few days

JAMMU: No respite is likely and the severe heat wave prevailing in Jammu region since the last two-three days may even aggravate and continue till the end of this month. The Weatherman said that there are no chances of rainfall in the region over the next few days.
The day temperature has been on the rise with the maximum being recording several degrees above normal.
Jammuites preferred to stay indoors during the peak hours of the day and avoid going outside in scorching heat.
Many places in Jammu region recorded above normal temperature. According to the Meteorological Department, the maximum temperature of the day was recorded at 41.7 degree Celsius, 3 degree above normal whereas the minimum was 28.0 degree Celsius, also 3 degree above normal.
People avoided going out and those who had to anyways did so after covering themselves up properly.
The impact of the heat was evident as markets and roads were mostly deserted.
Parveen, a shopkeeper, said that the heat wave had affected business as people avoid coming out in afternoon.
“For the last two-three days, extreme hot conditions have made life very difficult. Powercuts add to the woes,” he added.
The minimum temperature at Banihal was recorded at 29.6 degree Celsius, 2 degree above normal, and 29.2 degree Celsius at Batote. Katra also recorded 38.6 degree Celsius as the maximum, 3 degree above normal.
Talking to The news Now, Dr. Mohinder Singh, Incharge, Agrometeorological Research Centre, SKUAST-J, Chatha, said that the hot conditions will continue for the next 4-5 days, mainly due to clear sky.
However, strong winds in evening hours will provide some relief but the hot and humid conditions will continue in the region till May 30 or 31, he said.
A Western Disturbance is likely to hit the region by May 31 which will provide some relief, he added.
