TNN Bureau. Updated: 5/22/2017 7:13:35 PM Press Release

Jammu May 22 : AICC Spokesperson & Member Lok Sabha Smt. Ranjeet Ranjan today questioned the Modi Government for its three years of achievements in office and termed the big celebrations being organized by the government as an attempt to mislead and throw dust in the eyes of common man from its big flops on its promises which turned out to be mere Jumlas.
As the Modi government braces up to celebrate three years of its being in office, the congress today launched strong offensive highlighting the failures of the BJP government on various fronts by drawing parallel between facts and figures of UPA and BJP rule.
Addressing a Press conference here today at party HQ, Smt. Ranjan along with PCC Chief G.A. Mir, Senior Vice- President Sh. Sham Lal Sharma, Vice- Presidents Mula Ram, Raman Bhalla, and Chief Spokesperson Ravinder Sharma exposed the failures of Modi Government on various fronts and questioned the delivery of Modi govt. on the promises made by BJP during elections.
She said that Kashmir situation reflects the biggest failure of the Centre and State government to handle the situation, which is worst in many ways then in the nineties. She said that lack of any clear policy towards Kashmir and Pakistan is the biggest failures of Modi Government. The border Situation is worst during all these years with Pakistan indulging in all sorts of violations and violence. While the Prime Minister visited Lahore to exchange the greetings without any positive outcome, the Pakistan has crossed all limits to openly indulge in all sorts of worst provocations, every citizen questions the policy of the Modi Govt. and his 56inch chest. She reminded the BJP of its slogans while in opposition to target the UPA policies while it turned out be ‘Jumlas’ being in the Govt. She said that State govt. is the total failure in all fronts and there is strong anger against the BJP and PDP in all three regions of the State.
While concentrating mainly on the performance and policies of the government towards agriculture sector and plight of farmers and the common man due to sky rocketing prices, She questioned where are the promised two crore jobs opportunities annually for the youth, where is the bullet train, where are the smart cities but still the BJP claims of big achievements. On the issue of farmers, she said that 62% of our population is farmer but they are distressed as the number of suicides have increased. Against 12360 farmer suicides in 2014, there were 12602 suicides in 2015 while it was expected to touch around 14,000 in 2016, as 35 farmers commit Suicide every day. While 1,54,000 crores loans of big businessmen were written off, the Modi government has refused to farm loan waiver. BJP came to power with promise of “Cost + 50% Profit on MSP” but the government of India has told supreme court on Feb 20,2015 that India’s farmers cant’t be given 50% profit on cost of production. This shows the BJP’s Jumlabazi and falsehood .
Drawing a comparison of figure of UPA and Modi Govt, Smt Ranjan said that Modi govt. buys less wheat from farmers while it has reduced import duty from 25% to 0% to the benefit of importers. She quoted that against 288.8 lakh tones of wheat procurement from farmers in 2015-16, only 229.62 lakh tones were procured in 2016-17 which is less 59.18 Lakh tones similarly in Rice it has gone down from 342.18 Lakh tones to 304.35 Lakh tones in 2016-17, where as govt. imported pulses at Rs. 44/kg but sold at Rs 230 per kg. Despite good production of 221 Lakh tones the Modi govt. permitted import of 54 Lakh tones at Rs. 44/kg. This shows that import class prospers while the farmers and common man suffers. During UPA regime 55.62 lakh tones of wheat was exported costing 9261.60 crores in 2013-14 while 30.28 lakh tones wheat was imported during Modi regime at cost of 4375 crores during April 2016 to January 2017.
She said that PM Fasal Bima Yojana ( Started in 1st April 2016) benefitted the Pvt. impaneled Cos not the farmers, as premium paid to Cos is many times more than compensation paid to farmers. She quoted figures during Kharief 2016 Rs. 17184.79 crores premium was paid to Cos, while only 6808.48 Crores compensation was paid to farmers, thus benefitting the Cos to the tune of Rs. 10376.31 crores.
