Chill returns in Kashmir Valley
Srinagar, Apr 25: Cold weather returned due to chilly winds in the Kashmir Valley, where majority people could be seen wearing warm clothes today. Though there was light rain during the past 24 hours, but snow on upper reaches resulted in drop in the mercury, which settled below normal during the night at majority of the places in the Valley.
A Met Department spokesperson today said here that light rain and thunderstorm could occur at isolated places during the next 24 hours in the Valley. During the subsequent two days, the sky will be clear though predicted another spell of wet weather from April 28. World famous ski resort of Gulmarg, about 55 km from here in North Kashmir, was the coldest in the region after the mercury during the night settled at minus 0.2 degree, against 3 degree recorded yesterday. People woke up to a chilly morning though the Sun came out from behind the clouds briefly and was playing hide and seek in the summer capital, Srinagar.
The night temperature in Srinagar dipped by about 3 degrees from yesterday to settle at 7.6 degrees. Yesterday, the temperature during the day was 2 degrees less than normal due to intermittent rain and overcast conditions. The night temperatures at Qazigund, gateway to the Valley, Kupwara in North Kashmir and tourist resort of Kokernag also dipped and settled at 6.8 degrees, 6.9 degrees and 5.9 degrees respectively. World famous health resort of Pahalgam, about 100 km from here in South Kashmir, received intermittent rain overnight, resulting in considerable dip in the temperature.
Against 7 degrees recorded yesterday, the night temperature at Pahalgam was 2.4 degree. The mercury during the night at Leh and border town of Kargil also dipped and settled at 1.9 degree and 3.8 degree respectively
