JAMMU, Apr 24: Alleging large scale irregularities, nepotism, corruption and regional discrimination with Jammu in the process of selections conducted by PSC for the post of lecturers in School Education besides Asstt. Professors in various disciplines in the department of Higher Education, a battalion of Panthers Party activists led by Mr. Harsh Dev Singh Chairman JKNPP, Mr. Yash Paul Kundal State President Young Panthers along with other leaders held a vociferous protest demonstration outside the office of JKPSC in Jammu today.
While speaking on the occasion, Mr. Harsh Dev Singh expressed his astonishment over the recent impugned selection of plus two lecturers in the Commerce which had sent shock waves to the entire fraternity of aspirants. He said that as per reports published by a sect of media, the JKPSC had not called several eligible candidates for the interview despite having secured highest marks in the written examination as per the lists uploaded on the website and unscrupulously called many who had scored far below the cut off points. “Moreover, the recruitment agency had once again come under scanner for large scale irregularities whereby it shockingly awarded 41 marks out of maximum 40 in the interview to some candidates in an alleged bid to subvert the merit”, said Harsh quoting a media report. He revealed that the persistent discriminatory omissions and commissions by the PSC had been a main cause of embitterment among the highly qualified youth of Jammu region which could explode any moment like a volcano and, as such needed immediate attention of the Government and the PSC.
Expressing solidarity with the several deputations of educated youth of Jammu comprising PhDs and MPhils who represented to him of late, Mr. Harsh Dev Singh alleged huge regional bias in recruitments made by PSC for the posts of Lecturers and Assistant Professors during the last two and a half years. He said that the select lists revealed abysmally low share of Jammu region in the said recruitments and demonstrated the highly biased nature of selections as compared to Kashmir. He made a particular mention of the recently published select list of lecturers in Chemistry in which “out of total 59 posts of lecturers in Chemistry, 41 candidates have been selected from Kashmir and 18 candidates from Jammu while in the RBA category, Out of total 21 posts, 16 candidates are from Kashmir province and only five are from Jammu,” he said. Similarly, he added, out of total 34 posts of 10+2 Lecturers in Urdu, 30 candidates have been selected from Kashmir and four from Jammu. In the RBA category out of total 11 posts, 07 candidates are from Kashmir province while 04 are from Jammu. Similarly was the position with the select list of Asstt. Professors in the discipline of Commerce in which mere 13 posts went to Jammu region out of 58 and the rest were dished out to Kashmir. He regretted that earlier select lists of Asstt professor also revealed the same situation wherein out of 34 candidates in History, 9 belonged to Jammu region, 7 candidates out of 26 in Physics, 9 in Psychology out of 27 and likewise in other subjects. He further divulged that in Health and Medical Education department, out of 123 selections of consultants in Radiology, Medicine, Ophthalmology, ENT, Orthopaedics, Gynaecology, Pathology and Paediatrics only 23 belonged to Jammu region. He cautioned the State government, the PSC and the mandated leaders of Jammu region in particular to ensure justice to the Jammu youth by ensuring them a fair deal in the selection process or else Panthers party along with the aggrieved young fraternity would take an agitationl course to teach them a befitting lesson. He further demanded installations of CCTVs during the PSC interviews for better transparency and to check the malpractices in the recruitment so that the meritorious and deserving candidates were selected in fair manner as per their merit and knowledge.
Mr. Yash Paul Kundal while flaying the discrimination meted out to educated unemployed youth of Jammu region, said that the BJP leaders in a bid to keep their valley masters in good humour had colluded with its ally in providing ex-gratia and govt. jobs to the NOKs of slain subversives and militants including thousands of stone pelters responsible for Kashmir unrest, while the educated and deserving youth of Jammu Pradesh were treated like expendables only to be left in lurch.
