GBSC condemned recent brutal incident on Gujjar Nomads in Reasi by so-called “Gaw Rakshak”.

Jammu, Apr 23: A protest demonstration was held under the banner of GBSC with a huge gathering of students from various communities in front of jammu university gate.
While speaking to the media persons GBSC State Vice president Zaffar Iqbal said that on Friday evening a family of five members was on the way to high reaches with their Sheep, Goats and cattle for grazing. They have been beaten up brutally by ‘GAU RAKSHAK’ in the Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir. They were intercepted by a large group of Gau Rakshak and beaten up with iron rods. The attacker took away their entire flock including goats, sheep and cows. All the family members have suffered several fractures and a nine years old girl is in serious condition who is admitted in the hospital. Jammu and Kashmir has a large number of nomadic herder families, who travels between the Jammu’s Himalayan Mountains and the meadows of Kashmir every year with their flocks of cattle, horses, goats and sheep. They are facing such incidents since long but governments has not taken adequate steps to deal with this situation.
JU President Sajid Chouhan lambasted and demand immediate action against the culprits and their arrest under PSA. He said that these so-called ‘Gau Rakshak’ are continuously harassing and looting the poor nomads. The incident is condemnable, he demanded the intervening of CM, Governor and DIG Police in this matter and there should be assurance of security to the nomads so that they may move freely towards their pastures without fear and loss.
He said that it is a violation of human rights, human dignity and human liberty, and also warned the government for immediate action against the culprits under PSA, otherwise there will be a strong agitation throughout the state, government and police will be responsible. He said that poor interest of the government and police towards the nomads compelling us to come on the roads. The others were present on the occasion are; Vishal Kotwal, Shahid Ayoob , CH Mohd Taj, Mohd Shafeeq v president, Mohd Sadiq, Ishtiaq Ahmed Misbah, Bilal Rashid, Shakeel Puttu, Akbar Ali,Basharat Chouhan, Mohd Anees, Sabar Hussain, Zirgham Ahmed Province president and others.
