Mumbai: Sonu Nigam may have drawn the ire of many Twitter users for his ‘forced religiousness’ tweet where he referred to the use electricity at places of worship but interestingly, the singer has supporters in large numbers too.
Comedian Sunil Grover took to Twitter Tuesday night to humbly request people to not give the whole issue a ‘religious tinge’.
Grover went to write that he knows Nigam very well and he is someone who would never hurt anyone’s religious sentiments.
He tweeted: “I know @sonunigam sir he won't hurt anyone's religious sentiments ever. He respects all.Lets not misinterpret n give it a religious tinge (sic).”
Nigam’s tweets on Monday had made headlines. He had tweeted: “God bless everyone. I'm not a Muslim and I have to be woken up by the Azaan in the morning. When will this forced religiousness end in India. And by the way Mohammed did not have electricity when he made Islam.. Why do I have to have this cacophony after Edison? I don't believe in any temple or gurudwara using electricity To wake up people who don't follow the religion . Why then..? Honest? True? (sic)”.
He had also clarified that he had only raised objections to the use of loudspeakers at places of worship including temples and mosques.
