Police busts OGW module tasked to carry attacks, snatch weapons

SRINAGAR: In a significant development a day after terrorists decamped with four weapons in Anantnag district, the police busted a module tasked to carry out attacks on security forces and snatch weapons in south Kashmir.
Superintendent of Police, Kulgam, Sridhar Patil said that Hizbul Mujahideen terror outfit district commander for Kulgam, Altaf Dar, alias Al-Kahroo and his deputy Touseef Sheik, alias Moosad, constituted a squad of Over Ground Workers to execute attacks and snatch weapons.
“Upon this input, we registered a case for investigation,” SP told The News Now. “Within very short period we arrested the kingpin Zubair Ahmad Bader of Qaimoh and one of his associates,” Patil said. During questioning it surfaced that there was a module and they were in possession of arms and ammunition. He said that the group had held several meetings and had even conducted a recce of certain places along Srinagar-Jammu highway, particularly in Bijbehara. The module was also tasked to attack police officers.
“The module tried to carry out an attack in Bijbehara on March 19th but failed,” he said and added that six more members of the module were apprehended and arms and ammunition recovered from them.
SP Kulgam said that the investigation revealed some inter-group collaboration between militant organizations in Kulgam district as some of the ammunition has also been passed on to the District Commander of Lashkar-e-Toiba through this module by Hizbul Mujahedeen outfit. “The main motive of this module was to enhance strength and weaponry and morale of militant organization.”
