SRINAGAR: Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti today said that PDP was working to "enhance the peace constituency" which would lead to the resolution of issues confronting the state.
"Since its inception, the PDP has provided an alternative narrative in Jammu and Kashmir and helped in enhancing the peace constituency in the State and the sub continent," she said campaigning for the Srinagar and Anantnag Lok Sabha bypolls.
"The present polls are a step in further towards enhancing this peace constituency which will lead to the resolution of issues confronting the State," Mehbooba said addressing her party workers of Kangan and Ganderbal here.
She asked the workers to explain to the people that voting for the PDP candidates would lead to a situation where "resolution of issues, dialogue with stakeholders, opening up of contact points and revival of brisk developmental activities becomes imperative".
Giving electoral strength to the Party will get people the resolution of issues which have remained impended in the State for a pretty long time, the Chief Minister said.
Countering the criticism by opposition parties over PDP's alliance with the BJP, Mehbooba said the present J&K government had been formed on the basis of an agreement between the two parties that would enable the state to move ahead of the situations of uncertainty.
"Whenever the Party stitched an alliance for forming the Government in the State, it did so after due deliberations and securing the interests of the people of the State," she said.
Mehbooba reminded the people of the "acrimony and hostile" situation in the state and between India and Pakistan that existed at the time when the PDP was formed in the state.
The Chief Minister said her Party with the support of people was able to change that discourse and convince the country's leadership to take some bold decisions on Jammu and Kashmir and provide the people much needed relief.
"You are aware of the political discourse that existed in the State and on the State those days when our Party was formed," she said adding "since then, her Party has been working hard for enhancing the peace constituency in the State which got consolidated due to the transparent governance of the Party from 2002 to 2005".
While Srinagar Lok Sabha constituency is going to bypolls on April 9, polling for the Anantnag seat will be held on April 12.
