A musical show to celebrate diversity of Gharanas

New Delhi: Hindustani classical music has a rich tradition of Gharanas that are also called styles. An upcoming show here is all set to celebrate the diversity of these Gharanas with the performances of experts.
The sixth edition of Bhilwara Sur Sangam will be organised by LNJ Bhilwara Group at Kamani Auditorium on March 25 and 26.
It will bring together a unique blend of musicians and their respective traditions to attain the confluence of melody and joy with a mesmerizing variety.
The maestros to perform this year are Ustad Wasifuddin Dagar of the Dhrupad genre, Pandit Budhaditya Mukherjee (Imdadkhani Gharana) and Kishori Amonkar Jaipur Gharana.
Ustad Wasifuddin Dagar is the son of Dhrupad singer Ustad Nasir Faiyazuddin Dagar who has had a very rich history of illustrious performances across the globe. The show will begin with his performance on March 25.
It will proceed further with Pandit Budhaditya Mukherjee's performancxe on the same day.
The event will conclude on March 26 with the performance of Kishori Amonkar who is known to have prioritized emotional expression over tradition and has been modifying her Jaipur Gharana performance style by applying features from other Gharanas.
"Today, this event is like a religion for us. The legends that we have been showcasing have become a benchmark for us and we are equally passionate to bring talents from across regions," said LNJ Bhilwara Group Chairman L N Jhunjhunwala.
Started in 2012, this classical musical fest has over the years featured exceptional and legendary artists including Pandit Jasraj, Hari Prasad Chaurasia, Ustad Shahid Pravez Khan, Ustad Rashid Khan, Pandit Ulhas Kashalkar, Ustad Shujaat Husain Khan, Gaansaraswati Kishori Amonkar, N. Rajam, Kumar Bose, Anindo Chatterjee among others.
