Dacoits loot 60 kg gold from jewellery shop in TN

Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu Mar 24: In a daring heist, an unidentified gang looted gold and diamond ornaments weighing around 60 kilograms and valued at several crores of rupees from a jewellery shop at Palayamkottai, here in the wee hours of today.
Police said the dacoity came to light when the owner and employees of Alagar Jewellers came to open it for routine transactions. Preliminary investigation revealed that the dacoits reached the third floor of the three-storeyed jewellery showroom from the adjacent under-construction building.
Then the gang gained entry into the jewellery shop by making a hole on the iron gate located on the third floor with gas-cutters and looted the jewels from iron safe. Police said it appears the robbery was carried out after meticulous planning by the gang, which may have stretched over several days.
The robbery was held despite the presence of two security guards on night duty. Tirunelveli City Deputy Commissioner of Police Pradeep Kumar along with forensic experts visited the jewellery shop and held inquiry.
Employees of the jewellery shop were questioned by the police officials to find out if there was any involvement of insider of the shop. Two special police teams were formed to probe the heist.
