Ship Management Company, MMSI on a hiring spree in Jammu

Jammu, Mar 10: India’s fastest growing ship-management company, MMSI is on a hiring spree and intends to recruit senior merchant navy officers from the state of Jammu & Kashmir.

Confirming the development, Dr Sanjay Bhavnani, Chief Operating Officer, MMSI said “Our parent company in Japan, Meiji Shipping Company is on an expansion mode. We will soon add at least 11 more vessels to our existing fleet of 22 more vessels mainly consisting of oil & gas tanker ships.

“The highly skilled workforce needed to operate these specialized ships will be primarily recruited from the existing pool of senior merchant navy officers residing in the city of Jammu. The recruitment has begun from March first week onwards. MMSI would need at least 300 merchant navy officers over next 12 months to meet the capacity expansion.

He also said, “We have got one of the highest retention rates in the ship management industry. MMSI is well known for offering its merchant navy officers a career progression, and tailored individual support and training. The new positions we are seeking to fill will be across the full spectrum of roles from merchant navy officers and masters to chief engineers.”

A sizeable population of experienced seafarers resides in Jammu as state of Jammu & Kashmir are well- known for providing human resources to Indian armed forces, paramilitary wings and merchant navy. As merchant navy officers earn tax free remuneration in foreign exchange, as high as $15,000 per month per officer, their savings and investments in real estate, etc have contributed a lot over the years to the economic growth of Jammu & Kashmir.
