Fisheries Deptt holds awareness camp on Carp fish farming in Kupwara
KUPWARA, FEBRUARY 28: An awareness-cum-training camp for fish farm holders and field functionaries was organized by Fisheries Department here today to make them aware about various schemes of the Department for boosting fish production on modern lines and scientific pattern.
Chief Project Officer, Regional Fish Farmers Development Agency (RFFDA), Kashmir, who was chief guest, impressed the participants for adopting the carp fish culture, as there is tremendous potential in carp fish farming in the district.
He said fish farm holders should adopt modern scientific methods and avail the services of fisheries extension wings to boost fish production for improvement of their socio-economic conditions. He said for establishing a hatchery at Kupwara, Rs 25 lakh have been proposed to facilitate fish farm holders of the district.
On the occasion, Assistant Director Fisheries briefed the gathering about the progress of the Department and said that under Backward Regions Grant Fund (BRGF) 32 fish ponds have been set up, while as from existing 90 carp fish ponds as many as 34 quintals of fish production was recorded. Under private sector from 43 fish ponds functioning in the district a sale of 20 quintals was made during the current fiscal.
