JAMMU: Sleuths of District Special Branch (DSB), a specialized agency of police, seized 600 bags of PDS ration today from a Tallab Tillo based ration depot and busted a nexus of pilferage of government ration.
The incident also put the Khakhi under scanner when instead of detaining the owner of the ration depot, the concerned police paved way for his escape from the spot. However, the dealer was detained again when the matter was brought to the notice of senior police officers.
The District Special Branch (DSB) got the information that PDS ration meant for registered ration-card holders worth lakhs of rupees was being black marketed from a Tallab Tillo based ration dealer.
The PDS foodgrain was to be refilled into new bags and then sent for black-marketing.
Acting on the information, the DSB conducted a raid at Ration Depot No. 173, Lane No. 6, Talab Tillo, and seized 600 bags of PDS ration meant for people.
On getting information, the Talab Tillo police rushed to the spot and detained Jai Kumar, the owner of the ration depot. While the ration bags were being verified, the owner was allegedly allowed to escape from the spot.
He was, however, again detained, after the matter was brought to the notice of senior police officials.
While Vinod Kumar, officiating SSP Jammu, did not respond to the phone calls, DIG Jammu, Ashkoor Ahmed Wani informed that the matter would be looked into and assured that action would betaken against the concerned cops if allegations were proved to be true.
Meanwhile, following the incident, Director CAPD G.S. Chib placed the ration depot under suspension and ordered inquiry as to how 600 bags of PDS ration was diverted from government ration store at Chatha to the ration dealer.
