Priyanka to campaign alongside Rahul Gandhi

New Delhi, Feb 17: Ending days of speculation, Ms Priyanka Gandhi is likely to campaign for the Congress-Samajwadi Party alliance in Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections later today, key party sources said here. Ms Vadra is likely to accompany her brother and Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi in Rae Bareli, the prestigious parliamentary seat held by their mother and party president Sonia Gandhi. Ms Vadra is seen in Congress circle as a great crowd puller and was initially part of Congress' star campaigners for the crucial polls. Incidentally, she is also credited for playing her part in negotiating with Samajwadi Party leadership and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav for the SP-Congress alliance.

However, sources said Ms Vadra is likely to campaign only in and around Amethi-Rae Bareli region and she could campaign only for Congress candidates. Meanwhile, sources said Congress and Samajwadi Party are in "friendly" contests in over 20 Assembly segments including in Rae Bareli and Amethi too. The election in Rae Bareli is slated to be held on February 23 and Amethi on February 27.
