UDHAMPUR : Jan Sangrash, a NGO in collaboration with Bhartiya College of Education, Udhampur organized awareness programme on National Girl Child Day here today.
Minister for Forests, Ecology and Environment Choudhary Lal Singh was the chief guest in the function.
While speaking on the occasion, Ch. Lal Singh said that female foeticide is the biggest crime in this world. He expressed his concern about declinine male to female sex ratio in the state. The Minister said that the need of the hour is to
stop discrimination against girls in the society. Emphasizing that it is very important to save the girl child to maintain balance in the nature, he said that without them, one cannot imagine life .
Stressing on educating girls, the minister said that he would extend financial assistance to those girls who cannot afford going to schools. Stating that educating a girl means educating the whole society, the minister stressed that without educating them it is not possible for a society and a nation to progress.
Deputy Commissioner, Udhampur Niraj Kumar , Chairman PCB Ravi Kesar , CCF Jammu Roshan Jaggi, Director SF Ashwani Kumar Gupta , Director FPF Asif Mehmood were also present on the occasion.
Students of the Bhartiya College of Education also threw light on the social discrimination faced by the girl child in the society and highlighted various schemes like Ladli Beti, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao launched by the Government for the welfare of the girl child through their speeches. A skit was also presented by them on the occasion.
At the end, the minister felicitated all the participants with trophies and certificates. Among others, Joint Director Planning Rakesh Jamwal, Dy DEO Sapna Kotwal, DFO Territorial , Jugal Kishore, DFO SF , Dr. Rajan Singh, DSWO Rachna Sharma, Assistant Labour Commissioner Arti Bhardwaj, DIO Esha Chib and Advocate Sanjeet Bavouria from NGO Jan Sangarsh also attended the programme .
