Goenkans visit the J&K Legislative Assembly

Jammu, Jan 24: 36 meritorious students of GD Goenka Public School Jammu, governed by Om Prakash Bansal Charitable Trust Regd. alongwith their teacher Mrs. Seema Sharma and the Principal, Mr. Rajesh Rathore witnessed today the proceedings of the Legislative Assembly to experience the process of law making in the most honoured Institution of the State, that is, the State Legislative Assembly.

Hailing from classes 9th to 11th, these students sat glued to their chairs in the visitors’ gallery and observed the debate ensued between both the benches with a rapt attention. After attending an hour long session on the ‘traffic congestion’ in Jammu city, they proceeded to meet the Hon’ble Speaker of the Legislative Assembly Mr. Kavinder Gupta and expressed their gratitude to him on being allowed to witness the proceedings of the august House.

While addressing the students, Mr. Kavinder Gupta said, “Parents must go beyond the traditional job prospects, like, medical, engineering etc and inspire their wards to join politics also”. He added, “Students, empowered with professional competence, a strong value system and social commitment can be an asset to our state or the nation”.

Responding to a question asked by the Hon’ble Speaker regarding her interest in joining politics, Ms. Urvi Kotwal of class 11th shared, “I am feeling quite inspired after visiting the House today. I will make my best efforts to groom myself for all the future needs to become a politician.” She felt very much excited to have witnessed the gracious presence of the Hon’ble Chief Minister, Ms. Mehbooba Mufti, her role model.

Students expressed their sincere gratitude to the Principal and the management for providing them a great opportunity to witness the Assembly proceedings today.
