Militant killed in Gandherbal Encounter

Srinagar, Jan 24: An unidentified militant was killed in an encounter with security forces in Ganderbal district of central Kashmir today, police said.

Security forces launched an anti-militancy operation in Hadoora area of Ganderbal district, 25 kms from here, following information about presence of militants in the area, a police official said.

He said as the security forces were closing in on the position of the militants, the latter opened fire which was retaliated by the troops.

"In the ensuing gunbattle, one militant is believed to have been killed while the operation is still in progress," the official said.
