Class 12th Results: Education Minister felicitates meritorious students

Naeem Akhtar lauds teachers for going ‘above and beyond call of duty’; ‘Such indomitable spirit guides Govt’s resolve to put JK’s impaired education sector back on track’

JAMMU, JANUARY 22: Felicitating the students who qualified the 12th class annual examination in Kashmir division, Minister for Education, Mr Naeem Akhtar has especially lauded the impressive performance of the government schools in today’s results. He has also complimented the J&K State Board of School Education (BOSE) for declaring the result within 24 days of culmination of the examinations.

Pertinently, the theory examination of Class 12 in Kashmir division concluded on 3 December 2016 while the practical examination concluded on 28 December 2016 and the result was declared by the BOSE today.

Out of 53159 students who appeared in 12th Class annual examination in Kashmir division amid disturbances, 40119 have qualified the said examination registering an impressive pass percentage of 75.47%. The female students have registered a better pass percentage of 76.08% as out of 24359 female students who appeared in the examination, 18533 have qualified the same against 74.95% pass percentage of boys. Out of 28800 boys who appeared in the said examination, 21586 have been declared having qualified the exam.

As per the data provided by BOSE, the pass percentage of students of Class 12th has steadily improved over the past few years. Against the pass percentage of 55.18 in 2015 and 57.19 in 2016, the pass percentage in the results declared today is encouraging 75.47% with an improvement of 18.28% over the last year.

It is in place to mention here that in Class 10th results for Kashmir division declared last month, the performance of government schools has improved by an impressive 24%, going up from the average pass percentage of 50% to 74% against the private schools which have improved their performance by just 12%. The overall percentage gap in the results of the government schools and the private schools for Class 10th has also been reduced from 29% to 18%.

Expressing great satisfaction over today’s results, Mr Naeem Akhtar said it is heartening to note that with the modest but consistent efforts of the Education Department functionaries including administrators, teachers and non-teaching staff on one hand and the students, parents and the civil society on the other, there has been encouraging and visible improvement in the educational standards of the government schools over the past couple of years. “The recent results of the Class 10th examination for the Kashmir division, Class 12th results for Winter Zone (Jammu) and now the Class 12th results for Kashmir division reflect the steady but perceptible transformation that is taking place in the government-run educational institutions,” he said.

The Minister especially lauded the commendable efforts of the teachers of such government schools that have excelled exceptionally well in these examinations. “It is the outcome of the competence and commitment of our gifted teachers that the students of the government schools are now coming out with impressive scores in examinations,” he said and added that the maiden initiatives like CM’s Super-50 coaching and winter tuitions started by the Education Department are also contributing in qualitative improvement of the educational standards in the State. “Our talented teachers are now going above and beyond the call of their duty to make the movement for change in education sector a reality,” he said.

“It is reassuring to note that despite having lost almost full academic year to the unfortunate and tragic disturbances in Kashmir, our students and teachers have put in their best efforts to make up for the losses,” Akhtar said and added that it was only because of the sincere and untiring efforts of the teachers, the students, the parents, the civil society, BOSE authorities and law & order machinery that the successful conduct of Board examinations was possible amid trying circumstances in Kashmir.

“The overwhelming concern shown by the people, across the board, for the academics, is a source of hope and inspiration for all of us and it will continue to guide and strengthen our resolve to pull the State’s educational sector out of the slumber and connect our emancipated students to the larger world outside,” he said.
