Samoon reviews status WiFi connectivity in JK’s colleges under VISAKA

JAMMU, JANUARY 20:- Commissioner Secretary Higher Education Department, Dr Asgar Hassan Samoon, today convened a meeting to review implementation of WiFi connectivity with internet access for college students in all the Government Degree College Campuses of the state under Vittiya Saksharta Abhiyan (VISAKA), a campaign of higher educational institutions for digital economy.
Pertinently, the Digital India Plan besides promoting and creating the cashless atmosphere for implementation of VISAKA is on the cusp of a major financial revolution to shift from a cash-dependent to a cashless economy for better social equity, availability of more resources for development work through higher revenue collection, eradication of counterfeit currency, a reduction in illegal transactions and a curb on black money, by way of laying optical fiber upto college campuses including hardware as well data to provide the free of cost digital services.
Addressing the meeting, the Commissioner asked the officers and other concerned agencies to actively engage the students of these education institutions of higher learning to encourage and motivate all payers and payees to use a digitally enabled cashless economic system. He hoped that this revolutionary step initiated by the center government would definitely bring out a discernible change in the existing system for better.
On the occasion, State Business Head of Reliance Jio, Ashutosh Bajaj, informed that 10 college campuses of Jammu province have already been WiFi enabled and in 9 Government Degree college campuses WiFi enabled Digital Services are being installed while 10 more colleges of Jammu province are targeted to be covered under the initiative within a few months. The Jio Reliance has agreed to provide the WiFi service free of cost with 20 minutes 4G Data/User/day besides free infrastructure required for the purpose.
Reliance JIO also offered the new digital solutions free of cost, for which the Commissioner Secretary asked them to submit their detailed proposal for consideration.
Pertinently, Reliance Jio has already been authorized to make all the Government Degree College Campuses of J&K State WIFI enabled by way of providing required infrastructure free of cost.
It was informed in the meeting that three Government College campuses have been provided WIFI Digital Services while remaining colleges would be provided the high-tech facility soon.
The meeting was attended by Special Secretary Higher Education Department, Mission Director RUSA, Director College, Higher Education Department, Financial Advisor and CAO Higher Education Department, Technical Officer IT department, Sudhir Sharma Scientist NIC, Principals of Government Degree Colleges of Jammu City besides other concerned officers.
