JAMMU: Irked by the absence of the concerned ministers during discussion on grants of Industries and Commerce Department in the Legislative Assembly, Deputy Speaker Nazir Ahmed Gurezi adjourned the house today and pulled up the government for not being serious enough.
It was the second instance of the kind within two days.
As reported in The News Now, BJP MLC Ramesh Arora had raised on Wednesday the issue of absence of senior ministers in the Legislative Council and “questioned the seriousness of the government.”
Taking cognizance of the matter, Vice-Chairman Shehnaz Ganai who was in the Chair had adjourned the proceedings of the Council for five minutes.
Today, in the Legislative Assembly, MLA Kupwara, Advocate Bashir Ahmed Dar was speaking on the grants of the Industries and Commerce Department when the department’s Cabinet minister, Chander Prakash Ganga left the House.
When Deputy Speaker Nazir Ahmed Gurezi noticed the JKPC MLA Dar speaking in absence of concerned Cabinet minister and MoS in the Lower House, he pointedly asked Parliamentary Affairs Minister Abdul Rehman Veeri as to why the ministers are not taking the House seriously.
However, the JKPC MLA wished to continue his speech saying, “If Veeri Sahab will note my points, I have no problem with the ministers not being in the house”.
However, the MLA’s submission failed to calm the nerves of Deputy Speaker Gurezi who said, “It is highly irresponsible on the part of the ministers that they are not taking the august House seriously.”
He asked the MLA Kupwara to sit down and ordered the House be adjourned for some minutes at about 12:09 pm.
Later, when the House proceedings started again, both the ministers, Chander Prakash Ganga (Cabinet) and Farooq Ahmed Andrabi (MoS) appeared in the house.
They were asked by the Parliamentary Affairs Minister Abdul Rehman Veeri to show seriousness towards the House proceedings. All the members were in praise of Deputy Speaker Gurezi.
