Five die, 23 injured in road mishaps: Police

Jammu: At least five people died and 23 received injuries in separate road mishaps across the province on Wednesday, a police spokesman said.
He said a Sumo Car (JK14A-8908) which was on way to Reasi from Dangakot Village, met with an accident at Khou Ghat area of the district, leading to death of a woman on the spot and injuries to 16 other people.
“14 of them were shifted to GMC&H Jammu, where two of them succumbed, while two other are undergoing treatment at Reasi Hospital,” he said.
Police identified the deceased as Pushpa Devi (Age not known), wife of Parshotam Singh of Udhampur, Ashana Bibi (32) wife of Jan Mohammad of Ladda Sarila, Jagdish Singh (25) son of Badri Nath of Devigarh, Reasi.
Two bodies at the GMC&H have been shifted to the mortuary of the hospital for conducting the post-mortem while a case under relevant sections of law has been registered at concerned police station.
Meanwhile, two other people, who were taken to GMC&H in separate accident cases, succumbed at the hospital on Wednesday.
The police spokesman said that one Rakesh Kumar (28) son of Krishan Lal of Dansal, who was admitted in Medical College, Jammu on January 13 this year, after he fell from a tanker, did not respond to the treatment at about 4:30 pm.
“One Sahil Kumar (25) son of Sudesh Kumar of Ramban was admitted in GMC&H on January 15 this year after he received injuries in a road accident at Ramban. He succumbed,” the police spokesman said.
Bodies have been shifted to the mortuary of the hospital for conducting the post-mortem.
Ten of those injured in Reasi accident who have been shifted to GMC&H have been identified as Parshotam Singh
(32) son of Muni Lal of Kotli Lander, Udhampur; Narmata (10) daughter of Parshotam of Lander, Udhampur, Santosh Devi (27) wife of Kulwant Singh of Reasi , Shabana (9) daughter of Liyakat Ali of Ladda, Tarik (9) son of Abdul Gani, Liyakat Ali (27) son of Mohd Shafi, Kulwant Singh (35) son of Krishan Singh of Baryote, Mohammad Yusuf (56) son of Gulam Hussain of Devigarh, Shamshad Bibi (35) wife of Zamat Ali of ladda , Chamel Singh (32) son of Amar Nath of Reasi.
“Identity of two people is yet to be ascertained,” the spokesman said.
According to the police spokesman, at least 9 other people were injured in separate road accident across the province on Wednesday.
He said three people, identified as Kamal Kumar (44) son of Girdhari Lal, his son-Neeraj (22) and Krishan Lal (62) all residents of Peer Mitha, Jammu were injured when the car they were travelling in, skidded off the road at Sarore, Bari Brahamana, Samba.
“One Sham Lal (40) son of Thoru Ram of Chowki Chora sustained injuries at Akhnoor after he fell from Tempo,” he said.
At Asia Chowk, Jammu, he said one Nirmala Devi (41) wife of Ramesh Chand of Bari Brahamana, Samba sustained injuries after she was hit by an unknown vehicle.
Under the jurisdiction of Arnas Police Station in Reasi, he said, one Lal Singh (28) son of Kaka Ram was injured after the tipper he was travelling in, turned turtle at Gaddi area.
He said an elderly man, identified as Shiv Ram (70) son of Des Raj of Mand was injured at Mand area in Udhampur district after he was hit by an Indica Car.
At Bilawar in Kathua district, he said one Taranjeet Singh (18) son of Amreek Singh of Bilawar sustained injuries after he was hit by a matador.
A Traffic Police ASI, identified as Tej Krishan (52) son of Tara Chand, presently posted as SO with Traffic Police, Basohli, sustained injuries at Basohli after he was hit by a motorcycle.
All the injured were undergoing treatment at GMC&H when this report was last filed.
