JAMMU: Ruling People's Democratic Party Legislator, Javed Mustafa Mir, widely known for wit and serious sarcasm, startled the Legislative Assembly by saying that the Army and Police do not accord due respect to lawmakers.
Mir also said that Police have become a hub of corruption and have lost the discipline. "My purpose is not to insult or hurt anyone, I am just raising concern over institutional degradation", Mir, who represents Chadoora in Central Kashmir, said.
"Army should have respect for Legislators. I am not afraid of them, neither do I abhor them but they must respect the institution", Mir said in the Legislative Assembly while participating in grants of Revenue department.
"They (Army) call a legislator to meet them. Why don't they come over for the meeting", Mir asked. "I am not afraid of forces though I have respect for their uniform," he said, "they should know that legislators have authority. I will not go and tell them to do whatever they want."
