Nagrota garrisons on high alert, suspect held

JAMMU: Alert has been sounded in the Nagrota army area, the headquarters of the 16 Corps (White Knight Corps), late this evening after suspects were spotted adjoining to the army installation.
Official sources told The News Now that acting swiftly army have also apprehended a suspect and he was being questioned, but till last news came in, it is yet to be confirmed, whether he was a local or an outsider.
Giving details, the sources informed that at around 8:30 PM Monday, a post sentry of 16 Corps opened fire on some suspiciously moving persons.
"The suspects were earlier challenged before being fired upon, but they did not stop and later the jawan on sentry duty fired few rounds," said official sources and added that the incident occurred towards north of residential complex of the GOC of16 Corps. The exact area where the movement was seen was in between an army post and close to Tawi River.
Meanwhile, army beeped the alert siren and also cordoned off the area. "Acting swiftly, a suspect was immediately detained from the area, who was also injured and given first aid too. Now, it has to be seen, whether he was injured with gunshot or slipped when chased by army," added sources.
Sources further added that the identity of the suspect is being ascertained. They added that apparently on initial questioning he appears to be a local.
"It is also being investigating, was he alone and what he was doing in that area close to army installation," sources said and added that army is also questioning him about other details like his any links with anti-national elements.
Senior police officers also reach the spot and involved in the searches. SDPO Nagrota, DySP Amit Sharma, who was first to reach the spot said that police is investigating the matter and alert has been sounded.
However, when contacted, PRO Defence, Lt Col Manish Mehta not responded to the call and not available for comment's.
