Nov 2016:Rs 12865 Cr SBNs deposited in JK banks

Jammu: State government on Tuesday stated that post demonetization, a total of Rs 12865 Crores Specified Bank Notes (SBNs) were deposited in Jammu and Kashmir in between November 9 and 30 last year.
Meanwhile, in between November 9-18 last year, an amount of Rs 7888.00 Crore was deposited in J&K Bank. These details were provided in the economic survey, which was tabled in both houses of the legislatures here today.
In the economic survey, the Jammu and Kashmir government stated that as per the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) figures, in between November 9 and 11, 2016, total Rs 12865.11 Crore SBNs were deposited in various Public Sector Banks, Private Sector Banks, Commercial Banks, Regional Rural Banks, Scheduled Commercial Banks and central/state cooperative banks.
Separately, Rs 3081.95 Crore SBNs have been deposited in Public Sector Banks, Rs 8733.99 Crore in Private Sector Banks.
Further, under “Private Sector Banks” category, in Commercial Bank (Public and Private Sector), Rs 11815.95 Crore SBNs were deposited.
Meanwhile, in Regional Rural Banks, in between November 9-30, 2016, Rs 695.37 Crores were deposited. Under “Regional Rural Banks” Category, Rs 12511.32 Crores SBNs were deposited in Scheduled Commercial Banks (Public, Private and Regional Rural Banks) and Rs 353.79 Crore SBNs in Central/State Cooperative Banks.
Pertinently, there were 1998 number of bank branches in Jammu and Kashmir comprising 934 in Kashmir Valley, 998 in Jammu province and 65 in Ladakh region as on March 31, 2016.
The credit deposit ratio ending March 31, 2016 remained at 49 percent. As per 2011 census report, there is one bank branch for every 1000 households in the state while at national level there is one bank branch for 1800 households. The size of annual credit plan of Jammu and Kashmir during the year 2015-16 stood at Rs 23605.23 Crore. The credit-deposit ratio for the year 2016-17 is 55 percent fixed by the RBI for commercial banks operating in J&K. As on 31 March, 2016, the total deposits in Jammu and Kashmir stood at Rs 86232.35 Crore and the advances stood at Rs 42348.25 Crore. There are two lakh ATMs in India while as in J&K; there are 2260 ATMs of which 1011 ATMs are in Kashmir Valley.
