J&K hits record 6570 cases, 4 fully jabbed among 14 more die

Jammu: Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday recorded 6,570 fresh coronavirus cases, the highest single-day spike since the pandemic began, taking the infection tally to 4,09,166, while 14 people succumbed to the disease in the last 24 hours, officials said. The 14 new fatalities, the highest in a day in over seven months, pushed the death toll from the pandemic to 4,627 in Jammu and Kashmir.
The spike in the cases has pushed the positivity rate close to 9% and bed occupancy to almost 12.61%.
On last Saturday, the J&K recorded previous highest daily case count of 6568 since the onset of the pandemic in 2020. The count was breached by two cases today.
Among the seven died from Jammu region four had received both does of the vaccination. Six of the deceased were from Jammu district while one patient was from the Rajouri district. The decease all males-included 80-year old from Gandhi Nagar, 44 year old from Rajouri, 55 year old from RS Pura, 82 year old from Paloura and 26 year old from Bishnah area.
Meanwhile, during targeted testing, 65 were found positive from Girls Higher Secondary School Gandhi Nagar, 11 from Super Bazaar, seven from Government MAC Muthi and four from Shalamar Chowk.
Out of the fresh cases, 1,555 were from the Jammu division and 5,015 from the Kashmir division of the Union Territory, the officials said. This is the highest single-day spike in fresh cases since the first Covid case was detected in Kashmir in March 2020, surpassing the previous high of 6,568 infection on January 22 this year.
The officials said Srinagar district recorded a maximum of 1,450 new cases, followed by 971 cases in Budgam and 835 in Jammu district. There are 47,376 active cases in the Union Territory, while the number of recovered patients was 3,57,163, the officials said.
Regarding the deaths, they said, seven each were reported from Jammu division and Kashmir Valley respectively. So far 4627 people have died due to the virus—2260 in Jammu division and 2367 in Kashmir Valley.
Giving district wise details, the officials said that Srinagar reported 1450 cases, Baramulla 396, Budgam 971, Pulwama 107, Kupwara 395, Anantnag 416, Bandipora 243, Ganderbal 295, Kulgam 697, Shopian 45, Jammu 849, Udhampur 121, Rajouri 100, Doda 114, Kathua 81, Samba 112, Kishtwar 12, Poonch 82, Ramban 41 and Reasi 43. Besides, they said, 3789 Covid-19 patients recovered during the time—1278 from Jammu Division and 2511 from Kashmir. So far 357163 people have recovered, leaving active case tally at 47376—13812 in Jammu and 33564 in Kashmir. They said there was no new confirmed case of mucormycosis (black fungus) reported today. So far 51 black fungus cases have been confirmed in J&K, the officials said. They also informed that 36, 620 doses of covid-19 vaccine were administered during the time in J&K.
