Jammu: While the fate of a magisterial probe into the collapse of the iron shuttering over an under-construction bridge has yet to come out, another injured person is reported to have succumbed to his injuries.
“One Karan Singh (55) son of Raj Singh of Suchetgarh, R.S pura was today brought dead in GMC hospital, Jammu for autopsy from Military Hospital Satwari. He was one of the twenty seven injured persons who were hospitalized after a bridge collapsed at Koulpur, Samba '', said a police officer.
Earlier, on January 3, one Madan Lal (55) son of Ravela Ram of R.S Pura succumbed to his injuries. His death had triggered a protest at Chanduchak in front of GREF’s gate.
Pertinently at least 27 labourers were injured when the iron shuttering over an under-construction bridge collapsed in Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday last.
The major bridge is being constructed by the Border Roads Organization over the Devika river at Ramgarh-Koulpur.
A rescue operation was immediately launched and all the injured, some of whom also trapped under the debris, were evacuated to different hospitals.
Deputy Commissioner, Samba, Anuradha Gupta immediately rushed to the scene of the accident to supervise the rescue operation and later enquired about the condition of the injured undergoing treatment at Community Health Centre Ramgarh and trauma centre Vijaypur.
She also ordered a magisterial probe into the collapse. "A probe has been ordered into the collapse. The inquiry will be headed by the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) and the report will be submitted in three days," Samba Deputy Commissioner Anuradha Gupta said.
