Sgr ranked 39th in NITI Aayog’s SDG Urban Index

SRINAGAR: The Srinagar city secured 61.50 points as it was ranked 39th in Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Urban Index 2021 which was released by the NITI Aayog on Tuesday.
A total of 56 urban areas on 77 SDG indicators across 46 targets of the SDG framework has been ranked by the NITI Aayog in collaboration with GIZ and BMZ under the umbrella of Indo-German Development Cooperation.
Further, the ranking was done with regard to the performance in 14 SDG goals which included, no poverty, zero hunger, good health and well-being, quality education, gender equality, clean water and sanitation, affordable and clean energy, decent work and economic growth, industry, innovation & infrastructure, reduce inequalities, sustainable cities and communities, sustainable consumption and production, climate action, and peace justice & strong institutions.
Out of the 14 SDG indicators, Srinagar is the performer in 6 indicators, the front runner in 5 and aspirant in 3 indicators.
As per the index, Srinagar secured 54 points in no poverty (performer), 64 in zero hunger (performer), 71 in good health and well-being (front runner), 56 in quality education (performer), 78 in gender equality (front runner), 56 in clean water and sanitation (performer), 98 in affordable and clean energy (front runner), 21 in decent work and economic growth (aspirant), 30 in industry, innovation & infrastructure (aspirant), 43 in reduce inequalities (aspirant), 62 in sustainable cities and communities (performer), 75 in ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns (front runner), 63 in climate action (performer), and 90 in peace justice & strong institutions (front runner).
As per the index, the number of urban poor provided credit facilities per 10, 000 population stands at 16.85 per cent, percentage of loans disbursed against sanctioned under the PM Svanidhi Scheme stands at 95.22 per cent, percentage of population residing in slums stands at 26.95 per cent.
Also, the percentage of households with any usual member covered by any health scheme or health insurance stands at 2.63 per cent and the Multidimensional Poverty Index Urban Score in Srinagar stands at 01 per cent.
