Sgr witnesses coldest night

Srinagar: Srinagar witnessed the coldest night of the season for the second consecutive day on Tuesday as the mercury dipped to minus 2.3 degree Celsius and cold condition continued unabated across Valley and Ladakh Union Territories disrupting normal activities.
Freezing cold conditions continue to prevail in Valley as Srinagar experienced the coldest night of the season with temperature further plunged to minus 2.6 degree Celsius, further drop of 1.6 degree in the night temperature.
Many tourists wearing warm headgear and long fur coats were seen waiting for their vehicles to move around on the fog engulfed Boulevard road near the banks of Dal Lake.
The Meteorological Department office said, Weather is most likely to remain cold and dry till the end of November across Jammu and Kashmir.
At Airforce stations of Drass, the temperature settled to minus 12.8 degree Celsius for the second consecutive day.
At Leh, it dipped to minus 11.5 degree Celsius against the minus 10.8, while at Kargil it was recorded as minus 6.5 degree Celsius against 5.8 degree Celsus on Monday.
The tourist resort of Pahalgam in south Kashmir was the coldest place in the Valley as temperature further dipped to minus 4.4 degree Celsius against minus 3.7 recorded on Monday. Most small water bodies have frozen in Pahalgam due to freezing cold temperatures.
Qazigund on Srinagar-Jammu national highway also showed a dip in night temperature and was recorded at minus 2.2 degree Celsius against the minus 2.0 degree Celsius a day ago while at Kokernag it was recorded at minus 1.1 against 1.0 degree Celsius the previous day.
Ski resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir recorded the minimum temperature as minus 0.6 degree Celsius against the minus 0.8 degree Celsius recorded om Monday. Although there was an improvement in the night temperature, freezing cold conditions remain there with thick fog making it difficult for the tourist to move around.
In frontier Kashmir district of Kupwara, the minimum temperature was recorded as minus 3.0 degree Celsius against the minus 2.9 degree Celsius yesterday.
