Applicants seek age relaxation

Jammu: The Jammu and Kashmir Police Department is set to get more teeth as the Service Selection Board for the first time after the revocation of Article 370, has been authorized to advertise the posts of Sub Inspectors.
However, the aspirants have desired relaxation in age stating that due to COVID pandemic no recruitment took place thus putting their future into limbo.
“After becoming the Union Territory, for the first time in Jammu and Kashmir, the Jammu and Kashmir Service Selection Board will be filling up 800 posts of Sub Inspectors in the Police Department,” official sources said.
They added that the board will fill the posts on the basis of a written test followed by a physical test.
“To promote transparency, the process of physical test will be done through videography,” they said, adding that the government has opened employment opportunities, but many aspiring applicants are disappointed in reducing the maximum age limit.
The maximum age limit for applying has been reduced to 28 from 35 years of various reserved category candidates including open merit in the recruitment.
“The government should provide one-time age relaxation because due to the Covid situation their lot of time has been wasted and the aspirants since long were waiting for the advertisement,” said one of the applicants.
“Advertising the post of Sub Inspectors is a welcome step, but the age limit should be increased,” a student leader expressed, stating that at least the government must take a call on this concern particularly in view of time wasted due to the Corona pandemic.
“Instead of police, it is a right decision of authorizing the board for recruitment but at the same time, relief to the youth in age relaxation should also be provided,” he suggested adding that the many youth waiting for the advertisement are nearing age completion and few have been overaged, so they should be accommodated once.
