Retired faculty

Although the Jammu and Kashmir Administration is focusing on the education sector besides health, agriculture and sports as well, the structure of higher education is on crutches especially the Cluster University Jammu riding on ‘retired’ faculty as no fresh appointment has been made since 2016.The Cluster University Jammu was established in the year 2016 and the working started with an engagement of retired academicians mostly those who superannuated from the University of Jammu. More than ten employees were appointed in the university on contract basis and this exercise is still on and mostly retired faculty from Jammu University is being engaged. Earlier in 2016 when the Cluster University was established, retired persons were appointed and yet again, posts have been created to accommodate the same for new contracts.Till date, no permanent posts have been created and the Cluster University Jammu has invited applications for the recruitment of retired personnel.There are five colleges under Cluster University, which include GGM Science College, SPMR Commerce College, Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar, Maulana Azad Memorial Degree College and Government College of Education.Apart from admissions in colleges, the university itself also conducts post graduate courses.However, it was also alleged by some of the faculty that the university also does not pay honorarium to the teachers for checking the answer sheets and the fees from the students is being deposited on the lines of the University of Jammu.The Cluster University has now invited applications for the posts of Private Secretary, Assistant Librarian and Lab Assistant posts, sources said and added further that age should not be more than 64 years or the applicant should be retired within six months from his previous post.The candidates will be engaged on contract for a period of one year and the applicants should have work experience in universities or the government department.There is also a shortage of funds and government should recruit professional youngster in the university.
