SSH Srinagar gets approval for kidney transplantation

SRINAGAR: In a major development, Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar’s Super Specialty Hospital has been granted registration for performing Kidney Transplant under the Transplantation of Human Organs Act & Tissues Act, 1994 for a period of five years.
The registration has been granted by the Directorate General of Health Services, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.
“This is to certify that Super Specialty Hospital, Government Medical College, Srinagar has been inspected and certificate registration is granted for performing the Kidney transplantation under the Transplantation of Human Organs Act and Tissues Act, 1994”, the certificate of registration reads.
“This certificate of registration is valid for a period of five years from the date of issue. The permission is being given with the current facilities and staff shown in the present application form. Any reduction in the staff or facility must be brought to the notice”, it added.
Expressing happiness over the registration for performing Kidney Transplant, Principal/Dean GMC Srinagar, Prof Samia Rashid said that she is very happy to see that the institution got approval for starting the Renal Transplant programme.
She congratulated both the departments and their Head of Department HODs Dr. Syed Sajjad Nazi and Dr.Tajamul Hussain Mir for their hard work in getting it approved especially Dr. Syed Sajjad Nazir HOD Urology, who in the last 4 years has been instrumental in getting the department of Urology recognised among the top institutions of the country.
“The process of conducting renal transplantation in Super Specialty Hospital, Srinagar has started and the first kidney transplant is expected to start in November this year. Establishing another renal transplantation centre in Srinagar would be beneficial to chronic renal disease patients who require kidney transplantation and doesn't need to wait or travel outside”, she added.
