Sinha for heightened preparation to tackle 3rd wave

Jammu: At a time when partial restrictions have been imposed in parts of Srinagar after spurt in Covid-19 cases, the vaccine drive in Jammu region is in full throttle to negate the effect of ongoing pandemic as Poonch in Jammu region on Saturday has become the second district after Samba to achieve the milestone of inoculating 100 % of its adult citizens with Covid-19 vaccine. Moreover, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha stressed for heightenedpreparation to combat third wave.
Meanwhile five more districts in the Jammu region including Ramban, Jammu, Reasi, Doda and Kathua are on the way to achieve the feet as they have reached the saturation level. On September 8, Samba district became the first district in the entire union territory to vaccinate all above the age of 18 years with at least one dose.
In total 4,67,380 vaccine shots have been administered in the Poonch district, including 4,41, 666 jabs to the general population, 6869 doses(first and second shot) to health care workers, 18, 845 doses(first and second) to front line workers. Poonch has administered 2,41,417 doses almost half of the total doses in just three months time, as the vaccination drive for below 45 age group commenced from June 1.
Director General Family Welfare, MCH &Immunization, Dr Saleem ul Rehman while emphasizing on the speeding up of vaccination process said that each person needs to get vaccinated to remain safe from covid infection. Besides, he said that we need to keep an eye on the indicators like morality, hospitalization and positive rate of cases to avert or delay possible third wave.
The districts-Ramban, Jammu, Reasi, Doda and Kathua have given the first dose of Covid-19 vaccination to 94 percent, 92 percent, 90 percent, 88 percent and 87 percent of the people respectively. So far highest 15,92,638 doses have been administered in the Jammu district.
Data reveals that of 1,160,387 persons above 18 in Jammu district, 1061,687 (92 percent) have received the first dose and 531,273 have received the second dose of vaccination. In Doda of 310,913 persons above 18 years of age, 274,216 (88 percent) and 90,877 have first and second dose respectively. In Ramban, of 215,180 persons above 18 years of age, 202,787(94 percent) and 83,155 have received first and second dose respectively.
In Reasi, of 238,657 persons above 18 years of age, 213,878 persons (90 percent) and 75,885 have received the first and second dose respectively. In aggregate, 81.32 percent people above 18 have received the first dose and 34 percent have received the second dose in J&K respectively—
So far 1, 08,24,693 doses have been administered in J&K to its adult population, including 75,81,099 first and 32,43,594 second doses have been administered to J&K residents so far. In total 1,14, 317 received vaccination jabs across the UT on Saturday. All the 20 districts in the union territory (UT) have achieved the target of 100 per cent vaccination in the 45+ group.

“It should be ensured that all the service providers connected with the tourism sector are vaccinated with 2nd dose of covid vaccine,” Sinha said while chairing the weekly meeting to review the covid scenario and containment measures at Raj Bhavan.
During the meeting, the DCs and SSPs apprised the chair about the latest position of their respective districts with respect to covid cases, vaccination coverage status, and covid containment measures being adopted by them.
LG emphasized that only with heightened preparation can we keep the possible third wave at bay.
LG also passed instructions to the Divisional Commissioners, ADGP Jammu, and IGP Kashmir to continuously monitor the situation for achieving the set targets within stipulated timeframes.
Taking note of the districts lagging behind in submitting the reports on Equipment Audit Committees, the Lt Governor directed them to submit the same at the shortest possible time.
