UPSC Results 2020: 22- year-old among nine from J&K cracks civil services exam

Jammu: Atleast nine candidates from Jammu and Kashmir including 22-year-old have cracked the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) civil service exam-2020, the result of which was declared on Friday.

According to the UPSC’s list, there are 761 successful candidates including 545 men and 216 women -- have cleared the test, conducted annually to select the country's bureaucrats, diplomats and police officers, among other civil servants. As per the results, Bihar's Shubham Kumar and Madhya Pradesh's Jagrati Awasthi have achieved the first and second ranks respectively in the coveted civil services examination.

A 22-year-old Suchiter Sharma, of Jammu, who is ranked at 146 is at the top of the list of the successful candidates from Jammu and Kashmir.

Suchiter son of Madan Lal Sharma a resident of Salehar village of Bishnah in district Jammu cracked the prestigious UPSC civil services examination 2020 in first attempt and got 146 rank.

He is followed by Mohammad Aaquib (205) and Waseem Ahmad Bhat (225).

Shivia Hangloo (261) Sara Ashraf (316) , Altaf Mohammad Shaikh (545), Iqbal Rasool Dar (611), Amir Bashir (625) Majid Iqbal Khan (738) are also among successful candidates

Suchitar has completed his graduation in 2020. After completing his graduation, he appeared for the UPSC exam and got success in his very first attempt.

Suchetar said that he aimed for civil services since class 12th and started his preparation.

“It was very difficult for me to start for this journey, but I stick to my goal,” he said.

He added that there was great support of family and teachers, who keep boosting his confidence down.

Waseem Ahmad Bhat from south Kashmir’s Anantnag district qualifies UPSC examination with 225 Rank.

Son of Mohammad Yousuf Bhat hails from Bragram Batpora in Dooru. Waseem Ahmad Bhat (225 Rank UPSC 2020) His initial schooling starting at SS MISSION NATHIPORA and completes his engineering course from NIT Srinagar.

He credits his success to his parents and his hard work. Waseem is the first youth from Shahbad area who qualified UPSC examination.

Iqbal Rasool Dar of Jaggerpora village of Handwara in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, qualified the UPSC civil services examination 2020 in his third attempt by securing 611 rank. His father, Ghulam Rasool Dar is retired government employee.

The civil services examination is conducted by the UPSC in three stages -- preliminary, main and interview -- to select officers of Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS) and Indian Police Service (IPS), among others.
The civil services (preliminary) examination, 2020 was conducted on October 4 last year.
As many as 10,40,060 candidates applied for the examination, out of whom 4,82,770 appeared in it, the statement said.
A total of 10,564 candidates qualified for appearance in the written (main) examination which was held in January, 2021.
Of them, 2,053 candidates qualified for the personality test (interview), it said.
The 761 recommended candidates include 25 persons with benchmark disability -- seven orthopedically handicapped, four visually challenged, 10 hearing impaired and four multiple disabilities.
Of the successful candidates, 263 are of general category, 86 from economic weaker section (EWS), 220 of Other Backward Class (OBC), 122 Scheduled Castes (SC) and 61 belong to Scheduled Tribes category.
The UPSC said that the top 25 candidates comprise 13 men and 12 women.
The educational qualifications of top 25 successful candidates range from graduation in engineering, humanities, commerce and medical science from premier institutions of the country such as IIT, NIT, BITS, NSUT, DTU, JIPMER, University of Mumbai and Delhi University, the statement said.
The top 25 successful candidates have opted for subjects like anthropology, civil engineering, commerce and accountancy, economics, geography, mathematics, mechanical engineering, medical science, philosophy, physics, political science and international relations, public administration, and sociology as their optional choice in the written (main) examination.
A total of 150 candidates have been put in the reserve list.
The examination was conducted to fill 836 posts of different civil services.
Candidates can obtain any information/clarification regarding their examinations/recruitment on the working days between 10:00 hours to 17:00 hours in person or over telephone nos 23385271 / 23381125 / 23098543.
Result will also be available on the UPSC website i.e. http//www.upsc.gov.in. Marks will be available on the website within 15 days from the date of declaration of result, the Commission said.
