Army soldier ends life by shooting self in north Kashmir

Srinagar, Sep 23: A soldier of the Rashtriya Rifles (RR) committed suicide by shooting himself with his service weapon in the border town of Keran in north Kashmir district of Kupwara, official sources said on Thursday.

They said panic gripped the camp of 6 RR at Keran in Kupwara when firing shot was heard on Wednesday night. Other soldiers immediately rushed towards the post where a soldier Lokinder Singh Thakur, a resident of Madhya Pradesh (MP), was found lying in a pool of blood.

He was immediately rushed to the hospital where he was declared brought dead.

It was not immediately known why the soldier took this extreme step, they said adding police has registered a case and initiated proceedings.
