Admin permits Srinagar colleges to resume in-person academics

Srinagar: The administration allowed all government and private colleges of Srinagar to function for in-person classes from September-18.

The Srinagar District Magistrate Mohammad Aijaz Asad in an order has said, “Keeping in view the various representations received by the district administration pertaining to reopening of colleges in district Srinagar and in view of the improved COVID-19 situation in the district, all the government and private degree colleges shall be allowed to open for in-person classes for all semesters with immediate effect from September-18.”

The order reads that the concerned Head of the Institutions shall ensure that COVID-19 SOPs and guidelines issued by the district administration are followed in letter and spirit and the guidelines or the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) already issued shall continue to remain in force.

It was also mentioned that the necessary vaccination program shall continue in all the colleges in District Srinagar as per already notified schedule and all heads of institutions shall ensure completion of vaccination process in two days from beginning of the in-person classes.

“Any violation of these orders shall invite action under Section 188 of IPC, Disaster Management Act, 2005 and Epidemic Disease Act, 1897,” the district magistrate said.

Earlier this week, the Higher Education Department said colleges in Jammu and Kashmir will resume physical academics subject to specific permission of the concerned deputy Commissioners
