Drug peddler arrested in Kupwara; contraband recovered

Srinagar: Police arrested a drug peddler and recovered contraband from him in north Kashmir district of Kupwara.

A police spokesperson said that a police party during patrolling at Ashpora, Handwara in Kupwara intercepted a suspected person. ''During checking, police recovered 100 grams of charas from him,'' he said, adding the accused, identified as Ikhlaq Ahmad Mir, was immediately taken into custody.

He said a case under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Kralgund and further investigation has been taken up. ''Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood,'' he said, adding persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law.

''Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace,'' he added.
