The Indian Army conducted an overnight surgical strike in Pakistan occupied Kashmir area on September 29, 2016 and destroyed seven terror launch pads. DGMO Lt. Gen. Ranbir Singh addressed a press conference to inform about the successful strike. Leaders across the country hailed the Army and backed the Modi government’s bold decision. However, Pakistan dismissed India’s claim of surgical strike and termed it as a “quest” by India to create media hype by re-branding cross-border fire that killed their two soldiers. Pakistan Defence Minister, Khawaja Asif said, “The Pakistani army gave befitting response to the Indian army. Indian army opened small arm fire in five sectors across LoC. India is doing this under a well-planned objective. If India tries to do this again, we will respond forcefully. India is doing this only to please their media and public.” The News Now talked to some students to know the views of the youth over the success of India’s surgical strike.

Vickey Sharma, student of Political Science: Definitely it was the first hard-hitting military response to Pakistan after Uri terror attack. It shows that India is ready to respond to any misdemeanor of Pakistan. There has been continuous cross-border shelling from Pakistan’s side on LoC which shows Pakistan’s frustration. Though on international level Pakistan is trying to hide its pain by saying that there no surgical strike took place in Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) but no one can deny the fact that Pakistan has got a strong reply from India. In my view, India has taken a wonderful revenge of the Uri terror attack in which our soldiers got martyred. There is a limit of everything. Pakistan promotes terrorism and it deserves such befitting reply from India. After surgical strike whole world has come to know about Pakistan’s evil designs. It is one country which gives shelter to terrorists and promotes terrorism not only in India but in entire world. India has always followed a path of peace and love but in such circumstances when our soldiers are killed in terror attacks then it becomes duty of Indian army to teach a lesson to Pakistan.

Vivek Mehra, student of Social Science: I feel that the strike was a worthy jaw for a tooth response to the terrorist attack that killed 20 Indian soldiers and evoked nationalist sentiments. It is the responsibility of ruling party to take the country’s safety and security very seriously. Pakistan has always denied that it promotes terrorism.
If India would not have struck back against Pakistan then Indian Army would have been discouraged for continuously losing jawans in terror attacks and not doing anything. It was a very bold decision by the government and perfectly executed by the Army.
Though it is difficult to take such decisions which can lead to war but one cannot compromise with nation’s pride so what India has done was the right decision.
Shivani, B.Com student: Today, I am a proud citizen of this country and especially want to congratulate Prime Minister Narendra Modi who kept his words as under his supervision India successfully carried out surgical strike against Pakistan.
However, some people are trying to create a controversy over the issue and are asking for proofs to show that surgical strike actually took place. I think we should not doubt the capability of Indian Army and stop questioning it. When the whole country is celebrating the success of surgical strike one should not create controversy. Few years back, America had also carried out surgical strike in Pakistan when its soldiers killed Osama Bin Laden. India has shown to the world that we have zero tolerance against terrorism and that India is no less than any other powerful country. The surgical strike is also a kind of tribute to those martyrs who are dying every day on borders to save the country’s boundaries and its people.
Shivali, student of Economics: The surgical strike was a great brave step which was taken by Indian government after Uri attack incident. Pakistan had crossed all limits and it was high time for such action. One thing has become clear after the surgical strike to Pakistan that India will not tolerate terror attacks any more. Pakistan is showing its frustration by violating ceasefire with heavy firing and shelling forcing people in the border villages to move to safer places leaving behind their homes and crops which are almost ready to be harvested. The people on borders are facing hardships today after tension increased on both sides following the Uri terror attack and surgical strike in response.
Indian government has already initiated moves to isolate Pakistan on international platform with moves like pulling out of the Saarc Summit. The Indian Motion Pictures Producers' Association (IMPPA) has banned Pakistani artistes and technicians from working in India.
Priyanka, student of Computer Science: In my opinion, India should stop doing all business with Pakistan and should also stop the bus service to Pakistan. Time has come when India should carry out more surgical strikes and make Pakistan’s army and terrorist groups understand that we will not tolerate terrorism any more. Defence minister Manohar Parrikar hailed the Army for the perfect execution of the surgical strike and said that he has full faith in the army. Even opposition leaders like Congress chairperson Sonia Gandhi said that her party stands with the government in its actions to protect the country’s security and deal with the menace of terrorism from across the border. The strike was a strong message to Pakistan and conveys our country’s resolve to prevent further infiltration and attacks on our security forces and our people. Pakistan will recognize that it will have to bear big costs if the terrorist attacks against India continue. All of us stand firmly united against terrorism and those who support and sponsor it. I congratulate the army and the government for the surgical strike. Pakistan should now stop sending terrorists into India. There is a limit to India’s patience.
