From a book presenting a broadly historical narrative of the Red Fort, to a book of poems encompassing musings and contemplations, our book picks this week, curated by Chirdeep Malhotra

FICTION

“Summons from the Creator” by Priya Sidharth Sethi

This is a gripping read that follows the protagonist Ameeya, who has been having recurrent dreams, and the cure that she seeks for this turns out to be even more terrifying. She unravels the dark shadows lurking her own past, and this leads her to the Creator himself with questions about her existence. Will Ameeya follow the Creator’s orders to get rid of her demons by taking tough life decisions? Will this quest answer her existential questions? Read this book to find out.

NON-FICTION

“Red Fort: Remembering the Magnificent Mughals” by Debasish Das

This book seeks to present the lived culture of Mughals in all its multiple facets, and its broadly historical narrative is enlivened by various anecdotes. The book is divided into four parts. Part 1 focuses on the Imperial court and the court etiquette, while Part 2 contains detailed accounts of the Red Fort and the symbolism of its architecture, and the material culture of costumes, jewellery, food, drink and perfumery. The remaining two parts deal with the decline and fall of the Mughal rule and the British Colonial Durbars at the Red Fort.

BUSINESS MANAGEMENT

“Peoplonomics” by Vijay Sokhi

This book tries to bring forward the way in which people and organisations play a critical role in each other success. It presents insights on how the work environment influences the growth trajectory of an organisation. Similarly, in a very crystalline way, the book describes that only four types of people exist in any place of work, and that no matter who among those four you are, values and principles will always remain an integral part of progress and prosperity, both for the individual and the organisation.

POETRY

“The Petals of Reminiscence” by Pankhuri Aggarwal

The poems in this book will take readers through all the shades of life encapsulating love, companionship, bliss, and triumph to anxiety, distress, heartache, death, loss, rejection, and redemption. Readers can pour themselves some coffee and curl up with this book to read something striking and exquisite, as these poems candidly contemplate questions like how to find the true purpose of living, and what is life without love. These poems of inspiration, hope, and courage embrace the petite things that make life magical.
