MMU appeals to people to go for COVID-19 vaccine, follow SOPs

Srinagar, Apr 17: Appealing to people to get vaccinated against COVID-19, the Mutahida Majlis-e-Ulma (MM), an alliance of different religious organizations, has urged them to follow Standard Operating Procedure (SOP).
The MMU, headed by incarcerated Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who is also chairman of moderate Hurriyat Conference (HC), expressed serious concern over the second wave of COVID-19 that has gripped many parts of the world, including Jammu and Kashmir as cases are rising alarmingly. The Ulmas stressed upon people to hold special prayers in this holy month seeking refuge from almighty against the deadly outbreak.
It also fervently asked people, that keeping in view the Shariah and Islamic teachings and to protect themselves and others from the lethal virus, there is a dire need to strictly follow the COVID-19 SOPs, most importantly getting administered with the Covid vaccine.
The Muslim scholars, Ulema and Muftiyaan Kiraam of reputed Islamic institutions across the world have stressed upon Muslims to get administered with Covid-19 vaccine which is in keeping with Islamic rulings.
So, all the constituents of MMU, including its chairman Mirwaiz Umar, fervently appeal to people of Jammu and Kashmir not to pay heed to rumors about vaccination and go for it with as soon as possible, the statement issued on Saturday by it said.
MMU condemned the authorities for keeping the Mirwaiz under house arrest even in the holy month of Ramadan. Despite repeated appeals to release him so that he could resume his responsibilities in this holy month for Muslims, Mirwaiz remained under detention since August 4, 2019, a day before the Centre abrogated Article 370, 35 A and divided the Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories (UT).
