Jammu: More than 14,000 pilgrims had arrived on the first day of the Navratra at katra to perform pilgrimage to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi and 48 were tested COVID positive during testing.

No pilgrim is being allowed to perform yatra without possessing the negative COVID report or have to undergo the test on the spot.

“Amid the steep rise in COVID cases, over 14,281 devotees have arrived in Katra to take part in the yatra to Vaishno Devi Shrine during the Navratra,” an official said.

He said that on the first day, 48 devotees were tested positive for Coronavirus.

Meanwhile, the district administration in Reasi and Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board has ordered strict implementation of the COVID related guidelines.

The shrine board has already fixed a maximum limit of 25,000 pilgrims per day.
This is a rule which is in place for several months now.

Last year, the yatra was suspended after the outbreak of the pandemic on March 16 and after a five-month, it resumed on August 16, but in a regulated manner.
